Today, some 40 years after our beginning, TNSM continues to stand for important ideals. These can be experienced as you watch children discuss ways to solve a problem, learn through their experiences and work purposefully both in groups and independently. TNSM is a special place with its sense of extended family and culturally diverse community. We all enjoy the beauty of the wooded play areas, the Victorian architecture of the Mitchell Mansion and, of course, the healthy home-cooked lunches.

The New School Montessori classrooms are organized according to the Montessori three-year age groupings:

We have two Preprimary classes for 3 to 6 year olds. Kindergartners participate in special afternoon lessons while younger children nap or engage in other activities.

Our Lower Elementary program is for children aged 6 to 9; the Upper Elementary is for 9 to 12 year olds. Along with studying language arts, math, geometry, natural and physical sciences, history and geography, students enjoy special programs in music, Spanish, physical education, dance and art.
